BAB MANSOUR LAALEJ
Considered as one of the most beautiful gates in the world, located in front of El Hedim square, Bab Mansour was built by Sultan Moulay Ismaïl and completed by his son Moulay Abdellah (1732). According to the legend, this door is the work of a Christian converted to Islam, whose was baptized "the Victorious Renegade", known as Mansour Laalej. Bab Mansour has a 8 meters high opening in the form of a broken arch. The latter is decorated with exised ceramic scrolls and is framed by a wide band consisting of a relief lattice on a polychrome mosaic background, with a green colour dominance. It is supported by massive columns of white marble topped with y capitals of ancient style. Get closer to see the delicacy and complexity of the ornementation.
