FES
Imperial city par excellence, it is a mythical, historical city which medina is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is also the busiest city of Arab-Muslim civilization. Its rich past is present through its architectural heritage, its still preserved medina, its mausoleum and in particular that of the Patron Saint of the city of Moulay Driss, its medarsa (traditional school), Al Qaraouiyine.
A city heir of Andalusian culture and the birthplace of the former Cherifian Empire, Fes is divided into three areas : young (new) Fes, half old Fes and Fes the old.
Built in the 13th century by the Marinids, the foundation of Fes dates back to the end of the 8th century. Fascinating and enchanting, traditional and at the same time modern, the visit of this city and its medina deserves a few days journey.
