Il a \u00e9t\u00e9 creus\u00e9 sous l\u2019ordre de Moulay Isma\u00efl et destin\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019irrigation des jardins du Palais Royal avec une r\u00e9serve d\u2019eau pour la m\u00e9dina et permettait aussi aux femmes de son harem (dont le nombre approchait 500) de se distraire dans se bassin.
